I have border terrier who is just over 2 years old. Ruby has had 4 of these episodes now and by the time we reached the vet the cramping was over, they could feel her stomach in spasm and gave her an injection the last couple of times. Having found your site Im convinced Ruby has CECS. We are seeing the vet on Friday and I managed to video part of the episode to show them Have stopped feeding her red meats a few months ago and she has been seizure free for 5 months but took a really bad episode on friday :-( Hopefully my vet will have heard of the condition and can prescribe something to ease her pain (I do think the cramps cause pain) if it happens again. In between times shes a healthy happy little girl with loads of energy and such a fun dog to own. Im glad to see it doesnt shorten their lifespan.

Hi. I have a dog, a mongrel, who recently started having what appeared to be epileptic seizures, although they didn't look as what we could find on Youtube and other sites. We then ran into a website which talked about CECs, and on watching the videos we have seen that this is exactly what his seizures look like. I don't know whether he has any Border Terrier genes in him, but I am pretty sure he is suffering from CECs. I rang the vet yesterday and told her about CECs and she hadn't heard of it, so I posted her some links to videos and hopefully she will either find out more or refer us to someone who knows more about it. Your website is going to help us and our vet understand more about what's going on. Many thanks for putting everything together.

Hi!! I hope that the information contained in your website helps our Border Terrier, Lace. She began to get sick and vomit about 3 weeks ago, so, of course, we tried the basic chicken and rice diet, and then put her back on regular food--she got sick again, so back on chicken and rice. We went through this several times, and as a former breeder of Jack Russells, I felt that I had come to the end of my own resources and called a Border breeder/AKC terrier judge friend of mine who directed me here. I ran to the butcher and got Lace ground chicken, and she's just finished it for the first time--her first real meal in 2 days. My vet was not at ALL interested in Spike's Disease, and was quite rude when I told her about it--she didn't even look it up online. We're sitting here waiting to see if Lace cramps, or vomits, but this was the first time in weeks that she's been enthusiastic about food at all. We did maintain her with the rice and chicken, but as soon as we gave her kibble, a few hours later, she threw it all up. Please cross your fingers for her--she's my best friend and actually sleeps UNDER me at night--she's only 3, and is in excellent health otherwise. I am a Licensed Evaluator for Therapy Dogs International, and was very insulted that after all my years of experience with animals, that our vet wouldn't even bother to make note of this disease. I hope all of you out there with ill Border Terriers can find ways to heal them and let them move on with their lives. Thank you, Spike!

I am so sorry to hear Spike had gone. I have my own Border, Harry, curled up on the spare bed next to me.  (He is a month older than Spike and has CECS and a heart murmur) I know the time will come one day but know that he (Like Spike) has had a good life.  Thank you for sharing his life with us.

I am in tears writing this.  Spike was amazing and brilliant and stoic and brave, as were you with his condition and his care!   He has touched so many hearts!  I am so sad to hear he is gone - it reminds me of my own lost Borders, Pete and Emmy.  Hug your other dogs close and remember all the good stuff!  deb

Hello and congratulations on this this most helpful site. My six year old border TIA has suffered cecs since she was two. The vet diagnosed epilepsey but after seeing a spikes episode on youtube, I knew at last this was not the case.Non of the three vets I have seen had heard of cecs which I found quite shocking and agreed to look into it.I have been feeding low protein diet but Tia still fits, now I see glutin free may help, wish I`d known this before as I often feed her pasta and rice thinking its healthy, I feel so guilty now!
